Training program overview
At Suigetsu Dojo, classes are offered seven days a week, providing professional instruction to students of all levels, from beginner to advanced black belts, from children as young as 4 years old, to teenagers and adults.
Classes address all elements of fitness- strength, coordination, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance and mindfulness. All technique is taught with great care in a step by step, skill-building fashion assuring healthy body mechanics, safety, and precision of technique.
Our primary martial art system is Hakkoryu Jujutsu. Classes in Iaido and T'ai Chi Ch'uan are offered as secondary arts to the jujutsu students. T'ai Chi Ch'uan is also offered as a complete system.
GROUP LESSONS are offered several times per day, 7 days per week. Separate classes are available for children, teens, and adults.
OPEN MAT sessions are available for adults. These sessions allow students to work on specific areas of their own choice, under the supervision of a black belt, but without the formal structure of a regular class.
PRIVATE AND SEMI-PRIVATE LESSONS are available for both adults and children. These lessons allow the student to focus on specific problem areas or gain detailed knowledge in a one-on-one setting with the instructor. All lessons are taught personally by Shihan Masi or Shihan Fine.
SEMINARS featuring guest instructors from around the world are offered from time to time. At Suigetsu Dojo we believe that students should have the opportunity to be exposed to other martial arts and other martial arts instructors in a way that complements their learning.
IAIDO classes are offered weekly. They are open to all jujutsu students who have reached the rank of brown belt or have received a black belt in another art and are currently training in jujutsu. Iaido classes are open to the public only by special permission of the instructor. The class includes instruction in sword, bokken, jo, and hanbo. Suigetsu Dojo offers one of the few programs in the country where children may train in Iaido.
T'AI CHI CH'UAN classes meet twice weekly. They are open to the public for adults of all ages. No experience necessary. Jujutsu students (adults and children) who have reached the rank of brown belt may study T'ai Chi Ch'uan. This moving meditation is an excellent practice for adults wishing to "de-stress" without the rigorous physical workout of a Jujutsu program. A regular practice of T'ai Chi has been shown to reduce blood pressure.
